“There is just something so powerful about feeling the deep compassion and acceptance of a divinity who has also been misunderstood, maligned, or demonized.”
Shadow goddesses are divine feminine deities with qualities that mainstream society considers taboo, or undesirable. Things like being perceived as overly sexual or aggressive, intimidating, associated with death or the underworld, and goddesses who are known for expressions of rage. Basically, anything that frightens us.
They are the goddesses that have been labeled difficult or challenging to work with. If you ask other pagans about them you may even be warned not to go there, or you may have heard cryptic reports of how one of these goddesses "shook up" someone’s life.
And, yes, they’re often called “dark goddesses.”
But we do NOT need to feel intimidated or fearful of their energy, because as deep as their shadows, their love and compassion are even deeper🖤
love a troublesome goddess. One who proudly exhibits bad behavior and selfish motives. Not because this is aspirational, but because if goddesses can be messy and still be loved and revered, then so can I.
If I can love these goddesses in all of their glory and mess, it makes it so much easier to love my own toxic traits, my past, all of it. And if I can truly love my own shadow, then I can heal.
Dark goddesses teach self compassion and self acceptance at a level I've never experienced elsewhere.
They will truly become your biggest cheerleaders; guiding, protecting, and empowering you in your most trying times.
